Joshua BangertFibre SplicerI started my journey with KellyGroupalmost8 yearsagoasaService DeliveryEngineer working on our Openreach contract. 7 years later there wasanopportunityavailable on our Community Fibre contract, to join as a Fibre Splicer and I was delighted to start my training journey to become a fully qualified fibre engineer. I had to upskill as an engineer, however, having 7 years of experience on the field was a great advantage as I had a good understanding of how the network works and its structure. I trained at our Brimsdown facility with our nationalexperience and knowledge. I was very young when trainers and then spent time with fibre splicers,I joined and didnt see this opportunity as a career blowingteamsandundergroundcablingcrews, option, howeverwhich was a great experience to understand how processes follow each other and what role each engineer has in building the network. Fibre SplicersT he more time I spent learning are the end of the line, getting the network readyand understanding the industry for customer installations.the more I started to see this as Over the last year, I also gained experience as a fibre blower so occasionally, when its needed, I cana lifelong career path, step in to help complete this step of the networkand I would like to continue to work as an engineer build.for as long as possible. I would also like to carry on learning, I started my career working with copper and progressed my knowledge now with the fibre field. There are always opportunities within Kelly Group as they continue to venture into innovative CMJs (Compact Multifunction Joint); these minitelecommunicationssolutionsandImlooking nodes then split and feed into poles in differentforward to learning new things in the future.directions.Ihavetobeattentivewhilesplicing on either point of the network because it is a live network, therefore requires focus and knowledge. Once the fibre is spliced at the top of the poles, Community Fibres installation team introduces the fibre connection into homes. WhatIenjoythemostaboutmyjobisbeing outdoors and working as a network build engineer. Knowing that I contribute to making fibre available for homes and working on the project from scratch feels rewarding. Compared to other contracts our team is much smaller, which has the benefit of us being able to Jobs are scheduled ahead of our working day andsupport each other a lot more. Were all working each day I could be working on a different step ofstreets away from each other and we can always our network build project.
