Code Refactoring Developer

The Code Refactoring Developer is responsible for improving the structure, maintainability, performance, scalability, and quality of existing software applications without changing their external behaviour. The role focuses on reducing technical debt, modernising legacy systems, enforcing coding standards, and supporting long-term software sustainability.

Within the role of a Code Refactoring Developer, you will be responsible for the below:

Code Quality & Refactoring

• Analyse existing applications and identify technical debt.
• Refactor legacy code to improve readability, maintainability, and performance.
• Simplify complex code structures and eliminate redundant functionality.
• Apply SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean code practices.
• Improve application architecture and modularity.

Software Engineering

• Maintain functional equivalence while restructuring code.
• Develop automated unit, integration, and regression tests.
• Optimise database queries and application performance.
• Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure compliance with development standards and security requirements.

Technical Debt Management

• Create and maintain technical debt backlogs.
• Prioritise refactoring initiatives based on business risk and value.
• Document improvements and architectural decisions.
• Develop migration plans for obsolete frameworks and libraries.

Collaboration

• Work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, QA Engineers, and Product Owners.
• Support development teams during system modernisation projects.
• Mentor developers on coding standards and best practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

We are loooking for candidates with the below experience and skills:

Essential:

• Strong experience with C#, .NET, Java, JavaScript, Python, or equivalent enterprise technologies.
• Experience refactoring large-scale or legacy applications.
• Solid understanding of:
• SOLID principles
• Clean Architecture
• Design Patterns
• Object-Oriented Programming
• Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience with source control systems (Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
• Database optimisation experience (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Experience modernising monolithic applications into service-oriented or microservice architectures.
• Knowledge of software metrics and code quality tools (SonarQube, ReSharper, CodeQL).

For this role, you will need the below qualifications:

Essential
