A selection of Kelly Group engineers recently supported Virgin Media’s volunteer day in aid of The Friends of Wickford Memorial Park. Reece Wheeler and his cabling crew Paul Borg, Lewis Vaughan and Ioan Olteanu teamed up with the local volunteer group to assist with the Wickford Memorial Park’s renovation project. Works involved repainting the main gates and fences over the bridge at the Runwell Road entrance.
History of Wickford Memoria Park
The idea of a Memorial Park was suggested in 1946 to create a memorial place for the losses of Wickford lives during World War II. In 2014 the restored Avenue of Remembrance and new Home Front Garden was formally opened by Lord Petre, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex. During that year, The Wickford Memorial Association added further eleven trees, representing Wickford civilians who lost their lives during World War II.
Regretfully, since 2014 the park’s garden became neglected which inspired a group of residents to form a volunteer community called The Friends of the Wickford Memorial Park in 2020. The volunteer group is continuously working on fantastic projects to improve and renovate the park. These projects include painting benches, gates, railings while replanting and maintaining the Home Front Garden.
Rashid Collins (General Manager, Morpheus Cabling Ops) Said….
‘We were happy to support Virgin Media on their volunteer day in Wickford. It was a great team effort and a good opportunity to strengthen the bond and working relationship between the two companies. We hope the newly painted gates play their part in elevating the Jubilee celebrations scheduled for next year.’
Kelly Group is proud to support the communities we serve and wish The Friends of Wickford Memorial Park all the success for their future projects.
