Kelly Group is proud to introduce Laurence Langley, Scheduling Manager for our Community Fibre contract.
How long have you been working for Kelly Group?
I joined Kelly Group 3 years and 9 months ago.
What positions have you held throughout your tenure?
I joined as a Project Coordinator working on our Openreach contracts including L2C (Lead 2 Cash) and DNO (Distribution Network Operators). Then I continued my project coordinator career on our Openreach ONSA contract, dealing with emergency work, mainly responsible for 2 and 6-hour responses when a pole was involved in an incident and became hazardous for the public. I was available to take emergency calls 24/7 and organise engineers to attend these sites. This was a very interesting position that really challenged my problem-solving skills. I recently joined the Community Fibre contract as a Scheduling Manager.
What does a typical week look like?
We make sure all our permits and jobs are fluid for the months. I tend to work on schedules 3 weeks ahead to ensure all engineers know, which jobs need to be completed and where; and that we’re hitting our targets each week set by Community Fibre.
Do you have any set goals in mind for the next 12 months?
I would like to take a Project Management Prince2 course to further the knowledge that I gained throughout my career. I was considering applying to the University of Westminster but I’m still considering other options too.
What three words best describe your role?
Motivating
Challenging
Exciting
Before working for Kelly Group, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?
I worked in a double-glazing showroom once as a Digital Marketing and Sales Coordinator, which I thought was really interesting. The company was producing aluminium windows and sliding doors and throughout my time with them, I learnt a lot about the industry. My responsibilities included uploading ads for eBay amongst other platforms and providing recommendations in-store for customers based on their specifications.
If you could switch your job with anyone else for one week, whose job would you want to experience?
I would love to be a civil engineer and carry out the work that I have scheduled, I enjoy the aspect of building and using machinery.
What advice do you have for new Kelly Group engineers coming into the business?
Stay focused and work hard towards your goals. It’s easy to get distracted but if you stay focused, your hard work will be rewarded in the end.
What 3 words would your friends/family use to describe you?
Passionate
Organised
Energetic
What is your proudest moment?
I’ve been making music for 12 years now, creating instrumentals and beats. I don’t publish any music anymore instead doing it
as a spare-time hobby, however, I love to listen to my own songs – it’s a feeling nobody else can give you through art, knowing that you created something special, and it makes me extremely happy. Most of my creations are heavily influenced by American RAP and I am lucky enough to be able to work with a rapper from the USA whom I have known for a while now, adding verses to the beats I produce. It’s nice to have this creative relationship.
