Kelly Group is delighted to introduce Scott Stewart, our Elite Drivers Club Top Driver Award winner. Hassan Ahmed (Group Claims / Risk Manager) had the honour to present Stewart with his prizes which included the winner’s trophy, a brand-new van, £250 cheque, and a hotel voucher for two.
Scott said:
“I joined Kelly Group in 2016 as an engineer and throughout the years I had the opportunity to gain experience working on all major networks before joining the CityFibre contract, where I currently work as a Fibre Engineer. I am going through a transition period at the moment, I previously worked on the Urban Traffic Control project with Alan and Stephen – you can read about our special projects in the spring edition newsletter. I am currently completing surveys for upcoming installations. I inspect addresses where customers have requested a CityFibre service and create a report regarding whether the installation involves the overhead network or if it is toby fed. If the job is possible, I install an MDU unit and the installation team would take over to connect the MDU and a device within the customer’s property.
I enjoy everything that comes with my job, especially the splicing element. I am looking forward to being able to continue doing that. I used to splice by hand, which took a long time to complete, but technology has evolved since then- now we are using a splicing machine. This led to learning new techniques, which was a little challenging at the beginning however, with practice and patience, it became easier over time.
I gained knowledge and experience during my time at Kelly Group, as I mentioned earlier, by working on all our major contracts and becoming a qualified hoist driver.
Driving is a huge part of my role; I’m currently driving around 4000 miles a month. Being recognised as an Elite Driver is brilliant; it makes you feel appreciated. I’ve noticed a friendly competition amongst our team, I was one of the first people who received the Elite Drivers Club jacket, and everyone immediately said, “I’ve got to get that”. Steven, one of my teammates, won the £1000 reward couple of months ago and sent me his picture saying – “look what I won!”. It encourages friendly competition and starts a conversation about safe driving within our team, which we all find extremely important.
My biggest safety tip for fellow drivers is to be aware of your surroundings. If you stay focused while driving, you will avoid incidents.”
The Top Driver Award winner is drawn based on a random selection from a pool of drivers, whose score has been consistently 100% over the past 6 months. Along with Scott, there were 10 other exceptional drivers within our nationwide fleet who were awarded a certificate of excellence and a £100 voucher to Tesco, acknowledging their outstanding achievement.
Hassan Ahmed - Group Claims/Risk Manager Said:
“All of the 10 drivers have achieved a consistent level of driving excellence while driving a company vehicle. They epitomise the standards we expect on the road and maintain the highest levels of driving month by month. The certificate and voucher for each of the drivers is a thank you and a well done for continually adhering to road safety and driving with such focus and consistency. Excellent work and congratulations to all.”
10 Drivers were recognised with their Certificate of Excellence:
Kelly Group is delighted to introduce Daniel Woods our May winner.
Daniel Said:
“I started my journey with Kelly Group 3 years ago, initially I started as a stores man and was promoted to stores manager on our Lead to Cash contract. No week is ever the same and it makes my job enjoyable. I sometimes fill in when required, delivering materials from stores, so driving is a big part of the job, I drive approximately 3000 miles a month.
I feel like being recognised as an elite driver is quite an achievement, Kelly Group is the first company where I’ve experienced a recognition scheme, so becoming an elite driver was a proud moment for me. I like working for a business where health and safety and safe driving is practiced - it is so important.
As a manager, I recognise my responsibility to lead the way with example and push everyone to slow down a little bit. At the end of the day, your most important goal is to get home safe at the end of your working day. My safety tip for fellow drivers is: slow down and enjoy the drive. We are all rushing nowadays; I drove for four 4 hours today, and it was beautiful scenery. Slow down, put some music or a podcast on and enjoy it, rushing won’t get you to your destination quicker.”
Andrew Dean – Driving Risk Manager Said …
“It was a pleasure to present the £1000 prize to Daniel, who is based in our Exeter depot as a yardman issuing stock and deliveries to the workforce. He wasn’t expecting it at all he’s done so well and has a 100% score
Keep up the good work and safe driving. “
