enet approached Kelly Group to design and build a FTTH network in rural Ireland. The design principles to which we were asked to adhere included requirements for the network to be built to GPON standards; and to ensure each customer service pathway remained below 28dB loss.
- Site surveys to capture all existing infrastructure within the rural townlands, fully index all poles, duct network, joint boxes, residential and business premises.
- Desktop plan the FTTH network, recommending fibre cable sizes, primary splitter locations, ensuring 100% coverage solution for the target area of 450 properties, enabling commencement and sequential completion of build phases, produce CAD files which could be shared with third party stakeholders, propose new pole locations to bridge gaps in existing infrastructure.
- Installation of 78 poles, 20Km of ADSS fibre cable, 8km of underground cabling, fitting of 98 fibre DP’s, Fibre splicing and testing activities, end user fibre installs, set-up of integrated gigacentre for home broadband connections capable of delivering speeds of 1GB per second.
- Built a Bespoke IT solution that allowed our site survey officers to capture all network infrastructure information which could be displayed back to our design team in real time.
- Assisted in developing solutions to joint share pole space for the new FTTH equipment which will be a template for future fibre network builds.
- Working with different product types, such as 3M, Tyco, TE, Fibre Casa, throughout the network build to establish best practice for future networks.
- Recruiting local labour as well as introducing new skills, which meant we had a multi-skilled workforce which could switch from O/H to U/G works making us more cost effective.
- Liaising with the local community, keeping them informed of our progress which meant we had excellent cooperation at the home installation stage of the build.
