Keeping Our Drivers Safe: A Targeted Approach
Here at Kelly Group safety is our top priority. This is especially true for our new drivers, who statistically account for a disproportionate share of accidents – nearly 80% despite making up less than a third of our workforce. To address this, Kelly Fleet is implementing a new, targeted approach to manage risk for our New to Field drivers.
Understanding the first 6 months
The first six months on the job are critical. New drivers are still acclimating themselves to unfamiliar routes, company vehicles, and the demands of professional driving. This period presents a heightened risk of accidents.
Introducing a Dedicated Program
Following the Board’s mandate earlier this year, all new drivers will now be equipped with an AI powered Samsara safety camera in their vehicles. These cameras will provide valuable insights into driving behaviour, allowing us to identify and address potential issues early on while protecting drivers in case of an incident through providing visual proof of what caused the incident.
Your Dedicated Partner in Safety
As part of this program, new to field engineers will be assigned a dedicated driver risk manager. Their driver risk manager will act as their personal point of contact, offering guidance, support, and coaching throughout their first six months. They’ll analyse engineers Samsara data and use it to:
- Identify areas for improvement, like following speed limits, distracted driving or maintaining safe following distances.
- Provide targeted training and feedback to address these areas.
- Celebrate your successes and milestones on your path to becoming a safe and confident driver.
