Kelly Group is delighted to introduce James O ’Flynn and Colin Richardson our recent Elite Drivers Club monthly reward winners.
James was presented with his cheque by Driving Risk Manager, Andrew Dean just in time for the festive celebrations.
“James has a great character, and he is an asset to the Group who works on our Openreach contract. He’s been a consistent Elite Driver since the project launched demonstrating an outstanding example for his colleagues. I have known him for many years, and it was a pleasure to present his £1000 prize in December.”
Colin was the very first driver to win the monthly award from our Kelly Rail team.
“It feels fabulous to win the prize, I knew nothing about it – they caught me off guard. I didn’t expect it at all, but it is a pleasure to be the first Kelly Rail winner. I’ve been working for the Group for over 10 years and it’s wonderful to be recognised for my safe driving – I drive min 4000 miles every month. I am currently working as a supervisor for Kelly Rail. Health and safety is one of my main responsibilities and I am keen to keep everyone safe not just working next to the tracks but on the road as well - I provide transport for my team between jobs. “
“Colin is a fantastic asset to Kelly Rail who’s always happy to have a chat and always makes time for others. He is one of our long-serving colleagues and was my pleasure to present him this January’s prize - keep up the safe driving.”
Safety Tips of The Month:
Driving in strong wind can be extremely hazardous and our drivers must understand how high cross strong winds can affect their safety on the road. See our top tips below for driving in strong wind:
1. Drive Slowly
High winds can get under your vehicle affecting braking significantly. Slowing down will help anticipate these gusts and will reduce their impacts.
2. Hold the steering wheel firm
Strong winds are more consistent, they can catch you off guard. Maintain a firm grasp with both hands to have as much control over the vehicle as possible.
3. Allow more room
Allow more room when driving past cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries, and busses as they get blown around easily by side winds.
4. Observe what is happening around the vehicle
Watch when other vehicles appear to be blown off course by side winds.
5. Keep more distance between you and the car in front
Consider increasing the two-second rule to three or four seconds.
We have seen fantastic results from the workforce over the past year and the number of Elite Drivers is constantly increasing nationwide.
