Kelly Group operates with over 2500 vehicles in our national fleet. The group’s award-winning fleet department recognises the importance of road safety and has introduced many initiatives over the years for the safety of our drivers and the public.
Safety Tip of The Month – Keep Your Distance
Roads are becoming more congested each day which, can be distracting - don't forget to keep your distance between the vehicles at the front and rear. More space around the vehicle means less of a chance for a collision. Keep at least a two-second gap between vehicles in good weather conditions and a minimum of four seconds when visibility on the road is low.
Introducing David Haynes – This Month’s Winner
Kelly Group is delighted to introduce David Haynes our 8th Elite Drivers Club monthly winner. David was recently presented with his £1000 prize by Kelly Fleet’s Driver Risk Manager, Andrew Dean.
David joined the group 14 years ago and works as a Fibre Cabler. He drives an impressive 4000 miles each month in a safe manner and was amongst the first engineers to become an Elite Driver when the safety initiative launched in December 2020.
David Haynes Said:
“It feels absolutely marvellous to win the £1000 prize. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was asked to visit the group’s Brimsdown depot because my van is due for an audit. It feels rewarding to be recognised after 14 years of service; I was speechless when I spotted the cheque.
Even being recognised as an Elite Driver in December 2020 felt amazing. I didn’t know about the programme until Andrew told me I became an Elite Driver. I believe the scheme is making a difference in engineers’ attitudes towards safe driving.
I always wear my Elite Driver jacket which got fellow engineers curious about how to become a member. Some of these people are now walking around wearing their own jackets. Even this morning, I was having a chat with Andrew in the canteen after receiving the cheque and people walked up to congratulate me and ask what I did to win the prize. It is so simple, if you drive safely and become a member you will have an equal chance to win.
The best tip I can give to become an Elite Driver is to stick to the speed limits and be aware of what is around you.”
Andrew Dean – Driving Risk Manager Said:
“I’ve known David for many years it is always a pleasure to speak with him. He has a great character and is a very hard-working engineer.
He’s been an Elite Driver since launch in December 2020 – it is great to see a consistent driver wining the £1000 prize. It is a nice way to express our gratitude for his outstanding service, hard work and safe driving for the past 14 years.
Leave Sooner. Drive Slower. Live Longer. “
Christopher Hinkins – David’s Manager Said:
“I’ve been managing David for just over a year before becoming his manager we were working in the same team, so I’ve known him for years. He deserves this prize because of his driving standards. Sometimes he can spend more time driving than doing a job because of the region he works in. The number of miles he drives daily can be tiring but he never fails to pay attention to drive safely. “
We have seen fantastic results lately and the number of Elite Drivers is constantly increasing nationwide.
Kelly Group hopes that fellow drivers within the company will take inspiration from their colleagues and strive to achieve Elite Drivers status.
