North West Electrification Project

Overview:

The North West Electrification programme (NWEP) electrified key routes to improve capacity, providing better and eco-friendly services and revolutionising rail transport through reduced journey times between key cities in the North of England. It has brought communities closer together and provided a vital catalyst to enhance the regional economy.

Kelly Rail was involved in delivering Phase 4-5 of NWEP which electrified the railway network at 25kV AC overhead between Miles Platting and Manchester Victoria.

Services Delivered:

Working in collaboration with several supply chain members and Network Rail, Kelly Rail delivered the ancillary civils scope associated with telecoms and power works, providing construction, installation, testing and termination services.

During the 38-month programme, Kelly Rail delivered:

  • Fibre joints, testing and installation of STAKKAbox systems and return screen conductor (RSC) joints
  • New RSC cables
