London Cycle
Hire Scheme

Background

TFL awarded a contract for the design, build and operation of the London Cycle Hire Scheme, currently sponsored by Santander. The scheme consisted of 10,000 cycles, 12,000 docking points at 600 locations and covered in excess of 100 square kilometres of central and inner London.

Scope of Work

Kelly Group constructed the sites including civil engineering, duct installation, electrical installation and testing (including NICEIC Certification); and installation of the docking points and terminal units.

Other works undertaken included kerb realignment; new paving; removal and relocation of road signs and the protection of trees.

Key success factors and innovations

• Delivered on time meeting the required completion date for the scheme when we achieved through building an excellent working relationship with the client
•  A flexible approach enabled us to manage an accelerated programme, as work increased approaching the project completion date
• Designed and delivered project specific training for all personnel on the contract, ensuring competency and high standards of workmanship
• Supplied staff for the client’s logistics centre to ensure availability of materials
• Good health and safety record with no RIDDOR incidents on the project
